[249] Beach House

Last week I went to my dad's beach house to spend some time with him, my step-mother and my step-sister. His beach house is on the coast to the south-west of Melbourne, in a place called Brimlea.

Brimlea is surrounded by a swampy area that has been protected by the government, so no one can build any new buildings here. This means that even in the middle of the holiday season, there is almost no one at the nearby beach. You can see on the photo above that the beach was almost empty while I was there.



My dad and step-mum had the house built about seven years ago. They got it cheap by buying a house built by students studying building. The house was built at the university campus and then carried (in two pieces) to Brimlea on trucks.



It's a very relaxing place to be. I should try to go to the beach house more often this year...

[250] 海辺の家

先週、父親の住む、海辺の家に行き、彼と、彼の奥さんと、娘と過ごしました。父の海辺の家は、メルボルンの南西の沿岸に位置するBrimleaという街にあります。

Brimleaは、沼地に囲まれ、政府によって保護されている地域なので、ビルを建てることができません。なので、ホリデーシーズン真っ只中でも、海辺には誰もいません。上の写真で、僕がいる間ほとんど誰もいない状態だったのがわかると思います。

父と奥さんは、7年前にこの家を建てました。建築を学んでいる学生が建てた家なので、彼らは安く買うことができました。この家は、大学のキャンパス内で建てられ、（2つに分解して）トラックでBrimleaまで運ばれました。

とてもリラックスのできる場所でした。今年はもっと頻繁にこの海辺の家を訪れたいなあ・・・。
